“THOSEGHAR WATERFALL NEAR PUNE”

If I am not exaggerating, there must very few peoples on this earth who does not like to see and enjoy the waterfall... The reason I am saying so is because one of the beautiful waterfall in western ghat is Thoseghar Waterfall and is very near to Pune. One can plan a day picnic on weekend to this place....

Thoseghar Falls

Whats is the place all about  -
This small place is famous for the waterfall in forest. A big waterfall roughly 1000 ft. Yes. Because while going from the road to to Thoseghar, you will hear sound of waterfall clearly but will not be able to know immediately where it is. You have to do bit of trekking to reach at the point where the fall can be seen.

How to reach at the place -

If we start from Pune it will take 3 hours to reach at the place. Road goes from Satara city. Its just 20km from Satara city. Just to know you are on right path, when you cross the Satara city, you can see the samll tunnel. Just before tunnel road towards left takes  you to the Kaas Plataeu and road through the tunnel will take you towards the thoseghar waterfall. Its just 20-22 km from Satara City. The route to the Thoseghar waterfall is so scenic that you will stop at very places in between. My experience, if you plan to stop at various locations on the way to Thoseghar, please do stop while returning from the Thoseghar. This because there is one more place next to Thoseghar waterfall which you must visit. I will cover briefly the places nearby Thoseghar waterfall.

Best Time to visit - Off course from July to November. But to see it at its peak you must visit during August.

Care - Not specific but in general, since you will visit such places during rainy season, please take safety precaution in terms of wearing anti skid shoes, carry rain jacket with you. If you are taking yours kids there please don’t allow them to roam around. Because it’s complete slope and as I said earlier you have to climb down to reach in forest to see the waterfall.

What and how to see the place -
When you visit the place make sure you park your vehicle safely and carefully. Once you come out of your vehicle, start climbing down with your group. Now there are two roads to walk down. One road near to parking and few small shops will take you to the kind of watchtower point. From here you will get complete view of waterfall clearly. You will also come across series of other small waterfalls from the same point. Not exaggerating but. Everyone would love to be at that place for long times so as to accumulate the beauty of nature in their eyes and mind. Anyone interested and passionate for making nature paintings can bring their tools there. That will be a great opportunity to make a painting of view from that point. It’s actually table land created to have best view of the waterfall.

Way to the Waterfall

In above pic you can see the table land (Watch tower ) to get the view of fall
One you spend time there and take some good clicks you may want to visit to the places where the waterfall starts. For that you have to climb up a bit and take a road horizontally to reach at the place where waterfalls start. Be careful at that place because you may tempted to cross the cement grill and get wet in the flowing waterfall but never do that there. Flow and speed of the water is so dangerous there that you cannot stand in that water. So please make sure you observe the power of the nature from safe places marked there. There are security guards who may stop you from getting in to water. Please obey the rules. It’s better to wear good antiskid shoes there because you may find leaches there near to the waterfall point. Have a fun watching that place. Once you spend time there reach back to your parking location and have some snacks. "Butta, hot tea, wafers, Bhaji". Everyone will agree that its great experience to have garama-garam bhaji and hot tea when it’s raining out there. Once you have seen that place ether you can start your return journey or move ahead to see one more place out there.

Nearby places to see -
1. From Thoseghar, if climate is clear you may be able to see the Jungle of large windmills on hill top. Its just 5-10 km from Thoseghar, place named Chalkewadi. Its windmill jungle because 100's of windmills are planted out there on hill top one next to other. You can drive straight from Thoseghar towards this place. If the climate if clear you may see all of windmills clearly. The scale and size of wind mill can not be imagined from distance until you go very near to the windmill. This place is must visit if you are on the way to Thoseghar. Most of the time during Monsoon, this place is covered with clouds.

2. You may start your return journey and stop at various places on the road which you must have marked while coming to Thoseghar waterfall. There is one place on the way. I do not recall the name of the places but you will surely stop at that place. From here you will have complete clear view of dam. It’s a view between two small cliffs. Both side of the road has valleys. Please drive carefully when parking at this road side point. Do not park to the extreme side of the roads. We had come across that a car driver suddenly applied brake near this point while parking at the road side and lost the control because of wet grass. Fortunately he managed to control and all are saved. Else worst could have had happen. So just bit of care should be taken.

An incident I just briefed in Above paragraph

Nice place to stop by on the way to Thoseghar

3. Sajjangad is also one of place of Shri Ramdas Swami, on the way to Thoseghar. It’s a great place to visit and experience the history. I would like to cover these places in another blog where few details can be covered.
So in an all you can cover all these four places in a day provided you start early in the morning. Make sure you are not trapped in the traffic. Because day by day, especially in Monsoon season, many people are visiting here. So do plan it smartly.

Food - On the way there are very few restaurants where you can have your lunch. So if crowd is more on the particular day and if you are not lucky enough then you may have to wait long to get the food there. So keep your own fast food with you in case of such emergencies. These are small things but if you do not plan for it same trip will look to hectic for you. So plan for worst and have rocking picnic with your dear ones.

I am putting down here few snaps of my visit to these this places just have a feel of the place. But off course, unless you taste it you will not digest it..............

Keep travelling and stay tuned....

    1. No. Not without abseiling as far as I know. It is not allowed to get drench in the fall because of many accidents happened in the past. Despite of many caution boards, people used to neglect it and enter in to the falls.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and appreciating! Yes its very well doable by public transport. You can reach to Satara ST stand and buses running from there at every half and hour. Make sure you reach at Satara in morning so that you can catch the return bus from Thoseghar on time. Since not good stay options near Thoseghar.
